I have been a busy bee yesterday and today. I have been making quilt blocks for some new couch pillows. I plan on using them once the living room is painted. I made them ahead so I can put them on my Hinty and quilt them as I finish some charity quilts for a Military retreat at a local Mission. I would like to have eight so that means I have to make sixteen blocks. I am going with blues and browns and will probably go with a warm tan on the walls. I have also been making a ton of binding for those charity quilts. I used to hate to make binding, it scared me to death but I think I have finally got it down. I watched enough binding tut's I should have it down anyway! I love Pinterest for that and Utube as well. It's like having private lessons right in your sewing room. Well have a great Easter holiday everyone! Blessings!

My dear husband bought me fabric, I think I will keep him! He gave me an Indigo Crossings jelly roll, and three packs of the 5" charms to go with it. And over on Etsy at a nice little shop he bought me three charm packs of 5" Harvest Moon plus from Ebay two Harvest Moon mini charm packs. WHAT A GUY!
I am sorry I have not posted much lately. Business never seemed to stop over the Holidays. I am toasting everyone that this year will be the best year for sewing, crafting and decorating you ever had. But most of all I hope for all of us that we take time to stop and think of others who need our attention and help and that we are more inclined to be there for others than ever before!
Hard to tell in the photo but it does match the curtains. Outside we are getting just a taste of the storm, some very cold rain and I think we had flurries this morning. It looks sunny but its far from it. Anyway I had enough of the fabric left to cover some pillows across the top of the bed. The grand cost for the curtains, bed skirt and pillow cover? $3.00, yep that's right, fabric from a garage sale this summer. A quilter was getting rid of all her homespun and I snapped it up. Maybe she is into burlap now, who knows. I am not much of a burlap fan yet. I really didn't even notice the big hoopla about burlap till just the other day. Not sure where I was when it became popular. I still need to buy a rug or two and I have an old wood trunk I want to paint for the foot of the bed. I saw one on Pinterest that I kinda would like to copy. If I get it done I will try to post.

Now... don't judge too harshly my mural, its been a long time since I painted pictures of anything! lol

This wall is right outside of my poor little bathroom which you so most of in an earlier post. All I did on the mural was throw some houses up that I saw on other prim stuff, they are not very fancy. And sheep are not hard to draw at all.

He used two old treadle irons, a Singer and a White. Its hard to tell in these photos but the red matches the red in the wall stencils. They will look better when I finally add lamps (still waiting for those to get made.)

Hello! I have been so busy and still am but have one part of my project done that I wanted to show you. Its our guest room in the front of the upstairs. Loving the primitive and colonial look my husband made me one wall of fake logs. We used pine boards from lows and sheet rock compound for chinking.

I did the chinking, it was super easy to do then I stained it a little with a glaze to age it somewhat. The colors I used for my room are caramel on the walls and claret red on the woodwork and floor which also got some brown glaze on top of it to give it an older look
I have a laser stylus coming and have ordered one panto to try. Will post when it comes and I get to try it out. But here is the hook up the hubbs made. I have a Juki 2000 and I love it. I have sewn on just about every old Singer model there is and some new ones too (love the old Singers) but my Juki I have a relationship with!
If you do use pantographs where are you placing your laser stylus and what kind of laser stylus are you using? I would love to see photos and here from any and all users that are using a Hinterberg original frame. I had purchased the Grace perfect pattern boards and stylus. We had a heck of a time getting the stylus on the Hinterberg! My husband had to build a part to get it to fit! I have searched and searched the web looking for pictures of Hinterberg frames with any kind of stylus on them. I do find a wooden stylus that comes with the stretch frame but do not see anywhere to order one, not even on the Hinty site... I also have purchased the Grace laser stylus and am hoping that I can get it on the carriage some place without having to make the hubs build a special part.
The Vintage Seamstresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09813054087486126594noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7958941573369931563.post-55313186325839688862012-08-02T04:49:00.000-07:002012-08-02T04:49:14.012-07:00Self Binding Receiving Blanket..

I found the tutorial on youtube. It is called "the self binding baby quilt (receiving blanket). It was so easy and it makes great mitered corners. And for a finishing touch you get to use one of your machine's embroidery stitches that you hardly ever apply to anything, another plus.
I also had enough fabric to make four matching burp cloth's in the same way. The cream piece is a 30 inch square and the paisley is 40 inch. I just used what was left for the burp cloths, they are kinda oblong but a good size for use.
We made quite a few pillows, rosary bags and a throw. One of our member's, Marilyn Brown is an associate there. We had quite a day touring the grounds and buildings and seeing all the lovely things there including Father Fahey's flower beds. They served a marvelous lunch as well. So I will leave you to look at the photos!
I finished it today, it will go to charity. I don't care if it is a cheater quilt, it felt good to get it finished! I much prefer a pieced quilt but I do like the colors of this one, kinda spicy!

I have had this in my stash a heck of a long time. Been meaning to sew it up so I finally got around to it today. I think it will look much better once I quilt it and add a border of some kind. There was some border that came with it but I don't think it will be enough. I will really have to get creative if I use it, would like to use it though. I will probably use a light blue thread to quilt with. Anyway this is the very first cheater I have ever done, kinda makes me feel a little slutty.... not sure why? lol I will post another picture once its done.

THE sky is brass, the lordly sun
Looks down with a fiery eye, The shallow rivers scarcely run,
The streamlet's bed is dry.
The meadow's crust is stiff and hard, The trees have a sombre hue,
The threadbare coat of the rusty sward Needs patching with verdure anew.
Still bearing down, still staring down, The remorseless rays are cast,
And scorching hamlet and seething town Both swoon in their fiery blast.
The dust lies thick in the village road, The cattle crowd to the muddy pool,
The swarming flies high revel hold—Drowsily buzzes the village school.
Oh heavily droops the bearded grain, The summer flowers wilt and die,
And stretch their tiny stems in vain To the clouds for tears of sympathy
None come ; but the sound men ache to hear
Is the hurtling rush of the arrowy rain
Hurling its cohorts from far and near On roof-tree and window-pane.
A thousand tongues for its coming pray,
A thousand hearts for its advent long: Oh come and chase our gloom away--
Descend, and fill the land with song !
She is a short legged girl but I kinda like her. A friend of mine gifted me with a long quilt shelf. I am re-doing the upstairs guest room and want to put it up over the headboard. I would like to make about 6 more dolls to line up on the shelf part. I saw something similar on you know where and I am such a copy cat...:-O

Anyway here she is, named her after my Aunt Vetra who lived in Memphis close to downtown in an old painted lady Victorian. I remember that house so well, it had three floors and I explored every nook and cranny. What is a cranny anyway? lol I made her a bonnet and caught her a chicken to hold, it makes her feel better to hold a chicken....
My poor old yard used to be so green and pretty... Can't even burn the fire pit or roast a marshmallow because we are under a burning ban. We had no fireworks for the 4th like a lot of others that didn't either...

I have managed to keep my little garden alive and the tomatoes are starting to ripen. Its weird but the Italian tomatoes seem to be huge this year, maybe its the high temps or something?
This photo is from our local TV station, I was too in awe to run and get my camera and take my own photos but I may get another chance. It even thundered a little. I did have enough sense to stick an old tin tub under a drain spout that was pouring buckets. It filled it to the brim! I may get the chance to get my own photos because it looks like we may get another rain storm soon.

Praise God from whom ALL blessings flow!
I finally got off my butt and pulled some weeds and spread some black mulch and planted a few flowers. Not sure what took me so long this year, possibly because I was working out back, or repairing a sewing machine or sewing away, who knows. But yesterday I spread a whole pickup load of mulch and planted a couple new poesy's. Thought I would post a few pics before heading to Mass this morning.

Looks like I am getting ready for the 4th of July does it not? Actually these are going in my upstairs hallway where an Americana make over is under way. I think I may need to more yet to fill up the walls up there, running out of red white and blue ideas but I suppose any block would look good in those colors for sure!
I am so ready to quilt these if I can only work them in with all the other stuff that's waiting on me to do... The one on the left is my first paper piece quilt. I doubt I will ever go back to regular piecing but I might make myself learn to applique someday..

Looks like I may want to tea/coffee dye them a little. I want them to look a little more primitive so I will do that before the quilting begins, I am afraid I would screw up the spray stain technique.
